Canterbury City goalkeeper Joe Mant representing England at the 6-a-side World Cup in Crete

Canterbury City were well-represented as England started their 6-a-side World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Argentina in Crete.

Goalkeeper Joe Mant started between the sticks as goals from Dean McDonald and Ahmed Abdulla led their side to three points in Group D.

Manager Jamie Leggett and his men are looking to improve on last season's inaugural World Cup, in which England reached the quarter-finals.

Besides protecting his clean sheet, Mant also proved a useful asset on the ball for England as he accepted invitations to step up as an added attacking threat from both open-play and set piece scenarios.

He was seen to try his luck from range on more than one occasion, as evident in his highlights from Sunday's opener.

Among those in the England set-up are skipper Helge Orome, a non-league defender who also works as Paul Pogba’s body double, as well as a PE teacher, a sales rep and and an insurance broker in Mant himself.

The referees watching over proceedings in Greece to see if Germany can defend their crown also include former Premier League officials Mark Clattenburg and Bobby Madley.

England are next in action on Tuesday when they face Cyprus, before coming up against Bulgaria on Wednesday and Uruguay on Friday.

Mant's absence for Canterbury saw Folkestone Invicta shot-stopper Henry Newcombe feature in goal as Clive Cook's side beat Hollands and Blair 3-0.
