A collapsed water sewer has caused traffic disruption on a busy main road, six months after the same spot was affected.

Crayford Road opposite the McDonalds will be closed for the next five weeks, affecting motorists travelling from Dartford in the direction of Bexleyheath.

There will be no left turn from Station Road and it is anticipated the repairs will take five weeks to complete.

Traffic is currently being diverted via Princes Road, Shepherds Lane, Old Bexley Lane, A2, Bourne Road and Crayford Road.

Thames Water started repair work to fix a collapsed water sewer last month and is not due to finish until July 6.

The utilities company will also be fixing a leak on the same road on July 22 for one day.

Bexley council has requested that Thames Water put two-way lights in place by the railway bridge on Maiden Lane from today due to the amount of traffic using this route to move around the road closure.

Works are taking place during the summer holidays to avoid school-run disruption.

It comes just six months after a water leak prompted a similar road closure at the busy McDonalds roundabout heading towards Dartford.
