Woman and child in hospital and traffic queued for miles on M25 after a flipped car at Dartford Crossing causes three-lane closure

A woman and child had to be taken to hospital after a crash at the Dartford Crossing.

M25 traffic is queuing for eight miles from the Dartford crossing to the junction for Orpington/Badgers Mount interchange after a flipped car caused a three-lane closure.

The people inside, a woman and a child, were injured in the crash on the anti-clockwise carriageway going from Kent into Essex just before Junction 1a.

A spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance confirmed an ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) car attended.

The child suffered grazes, while the woman had a shoulder injury. Both were taken to Darent Valley Hospital for further checks.

He confirmed the initial reports indicated a collision between the car and a lorry, but on arrival it appeared the woman driving the car had hit the central reservation.

For nearly an hour only lane four was open and congestion backed up to Swanley. Traffic moving clockwise, from Essex, was also affected as people slow to look at the incident.

All lanes have now reopened, but congestion is still severe. With Friday rush hour traffic on the horizon, it looks set to be another afternoon of traffic misery for motorists in north Kent.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 9:27am to a report of a collision between a car and a lorry on the A282 near the Dartford Crossing. The road was cleared by 10:17am."
