Dartford Crossing delays in Kent after lorry hits two horses on M25 near Lakeside in Essex

Drivers faced delays around the Dartford Crossing this morning after a lorry hit two horses.

Motorists endured long queues on the Kent side of the toll booths after the accident involving the animals at about 7am.

It happened on the anti-clockwise carriageway on the J30 exit near Lakeside, in Essex.

All traffic was briefly held at the Dartford Toll booths on the Kent side of the crossing.

The J30 turn-off was shut and the west tunnel was closed before all lanes reopened at just before 7.30am.

Congestion was stretching back to J3 for the M20 and A20 at the Swanley Interchange.

Delays began to clear by about 9am, but the slip road remained closed for accident investigation work.
