It caused long delays on the approach to the Dartford Tunnel with congestion stretching back past junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange.

Traffic was temporarily held to move vehicles to a safe refuge and two lanes were closed.

The incident has since been cleared and all lanes have reopened.

Traffic was also building on the A206 Bob Dunn Way between Marsh Street and the J1a roundabout, believed to be caused by a broken down vehicle.

It comes after a car fire at the Blackwall Tunnel in London, which was closed earlier today and added to congestion problems at the Crossing.

Huge smoke could be seen billowing out of the River Thames tunnel and some people had to be evacuated.
