A2 delays: Kent drivers warned over severe congestion leaving London at A2, M25 and Blackwall Tunnel

Motorists suffered severe delays on the A2 leaving London tonight.

They affected the A2 coastbound, from Riefield Road at Falconwood, to the M25 Junction 2 at the Darenth Interchange.

There was also heavy congestion through the Blackwall Tunnel, towards Bow Interchange.

At one stage the travel time was more than an hour for those travelling through the area.

The problems were caused by a number of incidents, including drivers avoiding the A20, which was closed in both directions this afternoon due to a lorry hitting a bridge.

Motorists usually taking the route have merged with earlier delays from a breakdown at the Blackwall Tunnel, as well as the usual evening rush hour congestion as people leave London.
