Face of robber who terrorised motorist

THIS is the face of the man who used a knife to carry out a terrifying daylight robbery on a motorist in Dartford. The 55-year-old victim had pulled into a layby in Hawley Road to check a map book when the thug opened the passenger-side door of his maroon-coloured Land Rover.

After threatening the driver with a small knife, the robber then made off on foot towards Wilmington with £100 in cash and a watch worth £1,000.

The traumatised victim, from Bexleyheath, then shut the car door and drove towards Sutton-at-Hone before using a telephone box to raise the alarm outside the Papermaker's Arms pub.

Detectives investigating the robbery believe it may have been witnessed by many passing motorists as it happened at 10.30am on April 24. The possibility that the robber could have used a car parked nearby to get away is also being investigated.

Kent Police spokesman Shauna Hemingway urged motorists to lock their doors whenever possible. She said: "The offence took place on a major road and drivers going to work could have seen the car parked in the layby."

Ms Hemingway added: "The victim was extremely shaken by the ordeal and we want to trace this man as soon as possible."

The robber was black, 5ft 8in or 5ft 9in tall, in his mid-20s, clean-shaven and had a flat nose and short, thick curly black hair which had gel in it.

He wore a light-coloured grey tracksuit. Anyone with information should call Det Con Richard Bushell on 01322 283154 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
