Shed fire in Highfield Road, Dartford, accidentally started by discarded smoking material

Discarded smoking materials are thought to be behind a shed fire, which has prompted a warning to avoid it happening to others.

Two fire engines were sent to a shed alight in Highfield Road, Dartford, at 10.10pm last night. When they arrived, the flames had spread to nearby fence panels.

No casualties were reported and crews had it all dealt with within half an hour.

It is believed the fire was started accidentally by discarded smoking materials.

Crews are now reminding people to ensure cigarettes and other smoking materials are always fully out before carefully getting rid of them. They say you should also never leave lit cigarettes, pipes or cigars unattended, and always use a non-flammable, heavy ashtray that can’t easily tip over.
