During the dance, classes along with teachers and support staff, were spread out along the entire length of the playground to ensure social distancing.

In total 600 members of the school community came together to perform the routine.

Children had been practising the dance in their class bubbles to a video produced by Miss Kerridge, a year 5 teacher and professionally-trained dancer.

"We wanted to devise a dance that could be followed by every child from early years through to year 6," she said.

"The challenge was to come up with moves that could be performed on the spot as we needed to maintain our socially-distanced class bubbles during the day."

For many it was the first time they had taken part in an activity other than with their class bubble for over a year.

Year six pupil, Debra said: "It has been really fun and a good way to let off steam at the end of the day. I hope we can do it again".

International Dance Day, which took place last Thursday, aims to promote dance of all styles and for everyone.

The school's music co-ordinator Mrs Archibald said: "We have always used the Arts at Wentworth to empower children and to provide them with a creative outlet but this has been difficult to maintain during the pandemic.

"With all of the restrictions that we have worked under for the past 12 months, we wanted to use International Dance Day as an opportunity to come together as a school community and to feel uplifted by the power of music and dance."
