Colin Cloke, who acts as the mayors' secretary, clerk, admin assistant, messenger and driver is recovering from a fractured skull he received while on duty.

Cllr Jeremy Kite (Con), the council's leader, confirmed Mr Cloke was hurt while at the Ypres remembrance day ceremonies. He had earlier driven the councillor to the ceremonies.

During the afternoon he had stepped out of the way of a bus in Ypres Town Square, but fell backwards and struck his head on the ground.

"The Belgian hospital authorities, indeed everyone over there, has been magnificent," said Cllr Kite.

Mr Cloke was kept in a heavily sedated condition for some time before being allowed to return to Dartford where he is continuing his recovery.

"It is awful," Cllr Kite admitted.

"He is one of our family.

"With luck he will be able to go home before Christmas."

During his absence the mayor is handling the administration of his office, and using buses and taxis to get to events.
