Head teacher Anne Davis, currently at Longfield Academy, will take over at Dartford Science and Technology College

A new head teacher is set to take over at a girls’ secondary school.

Anne Davis has been appointed principal at Dartford Science and Technology College in Heath Lane and will start at the school in September.

Parents and carers were informed of the appointment in a letter from chairman of governors, David Edwards.

He said the school had received applications from “strong and experienced” candidates, and wanted a head to “build on the college’s many strengths and bring innovative ideas for the future”.

Mr Edwards added that Mrs Davis, who is currently principal at Longfield Academy, has a strong track record of leading school improvement, ensuring good and outstanding lessons, fostering an inclusive learning environment as well as working in girls’ schools.

Mrs Davis herself said she was delighted to have been given such an “exciting opportunity” and intended to ensure pupils have the best possible chance of success.

“This is a particularly challenging time in education, with the recent White paper announcements, however I am confident that working with the governors and staff of the college we will be able to meet these challenges head on and move from strength to strength.”

The school has approximately 900 pupils and was rated as good at its last Ofsted inspection in 2012.

Acting principal Alison Chapman will continue in her role until Mrs Davis takes over.
