Trains stopped after passenger taken ill at Hither Green

Rail commuters have faced delays this morning after an ambulance had to be called to a station when a passenger was taken ill.

The 6.30am Dartford to Charing Cross service via Sidcup was halted at Hither Green due to an ambulance being called to the train.

The train was held at the station for more than half an hour while staff waited for medics to arrive.

The passenger was taken off the train at about 7.15am, when it was allowed to continue with its journey.

Southeastern tweeted: "The ill passenger is now off the train and in care of medics, sorry again for the disruption to your journey."

Earlier, a spokesman tweeted: "We are sorry for the continued delay to trains from Sidcup via Hither Green due to the seriousness of the passengers health we have to wait for the ambulance to arrive.

"We appreciate the disruption this is causing but their safety is our priority."

The health of the passenger who was taken ill is not yet known.
