Plans for new concrete plant at Darenth Road Quarry

Aggregate firm J Clubb Ltd has submitted plans for a new ready mix concrete plant at Darenth Road Quarry.

The application to Dartford Council seeks to amend the layout and make additions to the existing quarry site - relocating elements such as cabins, machinery and sand and shingle bays.

The quarry - located north of the A2 and west of the M25 - was previously used to supply material to construction works on the A2 and M25 slip roads, with direct access to the construction areas.

The direct access links have now been closed and a parcel of land to the east has been taken over by Highways England and restored.

A planning statement said much of the surrounding land has been restored to woodland and agriculture, but the application site remains unrestored with excavated rock faces and bare ground remaining.

The quarry is secured by a perimeter fence and dense trees and vegetation block the majority of views of the site from public vantage points from all sides.

The application site lies within the Metropolitan Green Belt, but the planning statement notes that ‘very special circumstances’ have been demonstrated which outweigh any potential harm to the Green Belt

Consideration has been given however to the impact of the relocation and consolidation of plant and structures.
