Dartford crossing closed for four hours following police emergency

An emergency incident on the QE2 Bridge lead to huge delays from Essex into Kent this morning.

At around 2.40am officers from Essex Police were called after concerns for the welfare of a man who was on the wrong side of the barrier were raised.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers spoke with the man, who was on the wrong side of the barrier, and brought him to safety.

"The road was closed while officers engaged with him and was reopened by 6.35am."

Drivers were urged to avoid the area, with tailbacks of more than an hour on the approach.

The bridge was closed along with the M25 between Junctions 30 and 1A.

There are still delays in the area and drivers have been advised to allow extra time for their journey.
