Dartford town centre's Westgate regeneration project plans to be discussed in online session with developers Muse Developments

Developers behind a £75 million town centre regeneration project will field questions from the public about their plans in an online session next week.

Muse Developments, which is working on the Westgate scheme in Dartford, is hoping to build a new cinema, shops, restaurants and dozens of homes.

A planning application was submitted last month as the final details of the scheme were confirmed by the company, which is working in partnership with Dartford council.

The overhaul of the area will also include renovating the former Co-op building in Spital Street into a new hotel.

Residents will be able to quiz developers about the project during an online webinar next Tuesday.

James Stockdale, development director at Muse Developments, said: “We received a wonderful response from residents when we originally shared the plans in 2018 and we were hoping to arrange further drop-in exhibitions now that the planning application has been submitted to the council.

"Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus situation, it is not possible to arrange events, but we are still keen to talk to residents and keep them updated about the project.

“We are really looking forward to the webinar, to talking to people again and listening to what they’ve got to say."

More than 600 people submitted views about the scheme when it was first announced two years ago with some 70% expressing their support.

The webinar, which will take place at 5pm on May 12, is said to give the public a chance to find out more and ask questions to respresentatives from Muse and the project's team of designers.

The project includes 120 homes and a host of leisure facilities including bars, restaurants and revamping the former Co-Operative building into an 85-bed hotel.

The developers say "a proportion" of the 120 homes will be allocated as affordable housing, but have not committed to an exact figure.

Along with the homes and new shops and entertainment venues, a multi-storey car park and new public plaza will be created at the heart of the development.

Discussions are ongoing with potential retailers, restaurants and operators of the hotel and cinema components.

The full plans are available to view at Dartford council's planning portal by searching application number 20/00409/FUL.
