Recycling centres in Dartford targeted by flytippers

Recycling centres around Dartford are being regularly targeted by flytippers.

Pictures taken today showed rubbish left dumped at recycling centres in Oakfield Lane and Birchwood Road in Wilmington, and residents say such incidents are a common occurrence.

One resident, who wished not to be named said rubbish was regularly left mounting up around the recycling points, and was then being collected by refuse collection teams.

"Why is it being tolerated on a continuous basis by the refuse department?" they asked. "All it does is encourage those who cant be bothered taking their rubbish to the correct authorised tips."

They suggested flytippers saw dumping rubbish at the sites as "a half way measure because they think they can get away with it", adding: "Every couple of days the council send trucks out and employ operatives to pick it up. My gripe is if the council keep clearing it up, at taxpayers expense, people will keep flytipping it on a daily basis."

They added: "Dartford Heath is one of the worst locations as it is en route to the recycling centre followed by Birchwood Road as it is hidden by bushes as is one in Hawley Road."
