Multi-vehicle smash on M25 near Darenth Interchange busy motorway prompts gridlock

A multi-vehicle smash on one of Kent’s busiest motorways prompted long delays.

The accident on the M25 resulted in a lane closure on the entry slip road at the Darenth Interchange - Junction two with the A2 - on the anti-clockwise tunnel-bound carriageway at about 5pm.

More than three miles of congestion became gnarled up, with a wait time of about an hour, before traffic was released at 6.30pm.

Speaking at the time of the incident, a National Highways spokesman said: “Traffic has been stopped on the A2 westbound between Bean and the M25 due to a collision on the link road to the M25.

"Our traffic officers are implementing a lane closure and then will have traffic moving again soon.

“Thanks for your patience if you're held up.”

At 6.30pm they said all lanes had reopened on the A2 westbound and M25.

“There are slight residual delays, these are expected to ease with normal traffic conditions resuming shortly,” they added.

“Thank you for your patience, safe travels.”
