Residents have spoken of their shock after a woman was stabbed to death at a house in their street.
Police and forensics were continuing their investigations in Henderson Drive, Dartford, this morning after a man was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday.
Officers and paramedics had been called to a property in the road following reports of a disturbance shortly before 7am on Saturday.
A woman was found with injuries consistent with a stabbing and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 20s, who was known to the victim, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody.
Henderson Drive was taped off between the junctions of Marsh Street and Cavell Crescent while officers continued their inquiries throughout the day.
Worried residents caught up in the cordon have since told KentOnline of their surprise at their usually quiet street being turned into a crime scene.
Taxi driver Shaun Green, who has lived in Henderson Drive for five years, said: “I knew it was serious when I saw the forensics here yesterday but we did not know for a while how bad it was.
“We hoped it was not as serious as it looked.
“I have never had any trouble around here. You see it on the news but you never expect it to happen next door.
“It is shocking. Things like this do not happen every day.”
John Powsey first knew something was happening when he woke up about 8am and saw no cars driving up and down the usually busy road.
He said officers were searching through bins, people’s gardens and underneath cars throughout the day and the road cordon was lifted around 7pm.
The dad, who has lived in the area for 44 years, said: “It does make you think it might not be safe to let the children out. It does make you worry.
“It used to be a nice estate but it is getting a bit dangerous now.”
Neighbour Chris Carr, who has lived in Henderson Drive for almost 50 years, agreed.
He said: “This sort of thing does not usually happen on this road, it is normally quiet. You just do not expect it.”
Today, forensics were seen going in and out of a house which remains taped off. Two police vehicles were parked outside.
Yesterday, the new Labour MP for Dartford, Jim Dickson, said: “My thoughts are with the victim and all those affected by this morning’s tragic incident in Temple Hill.
“I would like to thank the police for their swift response and encourage anyone with relevant information to contact them.”
