Both tunnels at the Dartford Crossing were closed for "crucial maintenance".
It has caused delays anticlockwise from Junction 1A, Swanscombe.
According to Highways England, there was an alarm activation, and both tunnels were "checked for safety".
All lanes have now reopened.
