Dartford are waiting to hear back from Charlie Sheringham about a possible return to Princes Park.
Manager Tony Burman has spoken to the 29-year-old, who is a free agent after being released by Ebbsfleet.
Sheringham had been set to join a club in Thailand but that move fell through and he now looks set to continue playing non-league football in England.
"I spoke to Charlie a couple of weeks ago," Burman said. "He explained the situation regarding him going out to Thailand.
"He’s looking at trying to work during the daytime and he’s obviously talking to other clubs.
"The ball’s in Charlie’s court - it’s as simple as that.
"We’ve had our meeting and he might be able to come to us but if he doesn’t, we move on."
Burman has other centre-forwards on his wish list as he looks to add to a Dartford strikeforce which currently includes Andy Pugh and Duane Ofori-Acheampong.
"We’re looking," he said. "It’s been nice because I’ve not had to rush into things.
"There are gems out there and you’ve just got to find them. Those gems have been on our list all through the summer and if they haven’t got what they wanted or they’ve been weighing up their options, we can hopefully pick that gem up like we did last year."
