The Darts manager this week urged the crowd to turn up the volume at Princes Park to help lift the players for the relegation run-in.

And they responded to Burman's rallying cry by roaring the Darts to their most important win of the season so far.

Burman said: "The players didn’t perform the last time we played here, against Chester at home, but they have performed today. They got the crowd going and the crowd were excellent. I asked for a massive support from the terraces and we got it.

"The crowd have to be lifted through some of the play that they see. I felt they saw better play and better efforts on goal than they did in the Chester game, which was disappointing on and off the field."

Burman felt his side were good value for the win, which moved them to within two points of safety in Skrill Premier.

Dartford had 12 attempts on target to Macclesfield's one; the brilliant volley by captain Paul Turnbull which broke the deadlock just before half-time.

Burman said: "The fella’s hit it well and it’s dipped over Alan Julian’s head. But we weren’t playing that badly. We’d had chances and we did hit the target. But for a couple of great saves, we could have come in with a lead ourselves.

"We gave them too much room in the first half and the two lads, Jim Stevenson and Max Cornhill, got a lot tighter to their two lads in there and it paid dividends in the end."

Danny Harris equalised less than two minutes into the second half and substitute Ben Swallow crossed for Cornhill to score the winner nine minutes from the end.

"I'm pleased," Burman said. "For all their work-rate, they got a just reward. In the second half we were the better side and we deserved to win the game."
