A BABY born after the mother had been involved in a serious road accident on Saturday morning is in a critical condition in hospital.

The pregnant woman was driving a Ford Fiesta on the A258 between Dover and Deal at around 9.50pm when the crash took place.

She went into labour and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, where her baby was delivered still born by Caesarean section but was resuscitated.

The mother also remains in hospital with serious injuries. Her 18-month-old child, who was in the back of the car, was unharmed.

Police said she was overtaking a bus when her car collided with a Peugeot 106 travelling in the opposite direction. A Peugeot 206 car was also involved when it crashed into the back of the 106.

The driver of the Peugeot 106, a 51-year-old woman from Deal, was cut from the wreckage of her vehicle and airlifted to the QEQM Hospital by Kent Air Ambulance. She also remains in hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the third car was not badly hurt.
