Collision between taxi and cow on the A258 Dover Road, Guston

A cow struck by a taxi has died.

The animal had at first been able to walk straight after the collision.

But a vet was called and the animal's then deteriorating condition gave them no choice but to put it down.

Police had been called to the accident on the A258 Dover Road at Guston at 9.39pm yesterday.

That night the Dover section of Kent Police had tweeted details of the crash saying the cow had at first survived.

The message that night said:" Poor weather and livestock in the road (a cow). Vet on the way to help the animal (it is still walking).

" Thankfully driver was driving according to the conditions so no human injuries. "

Shortly afterwards a woman called Traci Garlinge tweeted a reply: "How is the cow, do you know?"

Police later replied: "Sorry to say that after this was posted, the vet had to put it to sleep."

The road had been temporarily closed immediately after the accident.
