Oddfellow's Hall in Century Walk, Deal to be turned into a photography dark room

Plans are afoot to create a new artists' and writers' studio.

It is hoped to create this at the Odd Fellows Hall at Century Walk, Deal.

The scheme is to raise the roof of the existing garage to allow this conversion, creating a pitched roof with a ridge height of about 5.1 metres (16.7ft).

The studio would be used for writing and photography, as a darkroom,

Six neighbours' letters of objection have been sent to Dover District Council, with writers fearing overdevelopment, loss of privacy and light pollution.

Three letters of support have also come it, with those neighbours saying the development would have minimal impact on nearby properties.

They also said that this was a modest increase in height and insignificant when seen next to the higher Sunnyside Cottages in Anchor Lane.

The application for this will be discussed by the council's planning committee tonight (Thursday).

Officers are recommending approval.

The planning meeting is from 6pm at the DDC headquarters at the White Cliffs Business Park in Whitfield.
