Death crash driver jailed

A MOTORIST convicted of causing the death of a teacher by dangerous driving was today jailed for 12 months at Canterbury Crown Court.

Dwayne Brown, 26, of St Martins Road, Deal, was also disqualified for three years, ordered to take an extended driving test and nine penalty points were added to his licence.

Brown had been found guilty after a trial in which the jury heard that in February last year, he cut a corner on the Deal to Sandwich Road and collided head on with a car coming in the other direction. The driver, Peter Burge, died at the scene.

Ian Foinette, defending, said that Brown fully understood the effect the accident had had on others as well as on himself.
