Officers think the man tried to strike again a week later.

He visited a property in Pilots Avenue at 4pm on Thursday, July 4 and again asked to check the water supply.

It was only when the victim asked for proof of identification that the man left. Nothing was stolen.

Any witnesses or anyone who recognises the man from this image should call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/128683/19.

Police are reminding residents to be vigilant, look out for their neighbours and be aware of thieves who use distraction techniques to carry out crime.

Keep doors and windows locked, and do not let strangers into your home unless you can confirm their identity.

Any suspicious activity should be reported to the police immediately either via 101 or by calling Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
