Blaze on 500 sq m of crop field at Southwall Road, Deal, though to have come from camp fire

A blaze destroyed 500 sq m of crop.

It is believed to have been started accidentally from a camp fire.

It happened on a field off Southwall Road, Deal, yesterday (Sunday).

Fire crews were called to the scene just after 1.20pm.

They used a main jet, a high pressure hose reel, short extension ladder and fire beaters to put out the flames, which devoured cut crop.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was at the scene for just over an hour.
