Deal & Walmer Chamber of Trade will hold auction to raise cash for Deal Christmas Lights switch-on event

More than 150 lots are up for grabs at tonight's auction which pays for the Christmas Lights event in Deal.

Donations have flooded in from businesses, and items going under the hammer include a giant

cuddly dolphin and a set of golf clubs (pictured).

The auction is organised by Deal & Walmer Chamber of Trade and it takes place at Deal Angling Club 1919 at 13 The Marina.

Viewing is from 7pm and bidding starts at 7.30pm.

Chamber chairman Peter Jull said: "The bar will be open making it a fun evening with no risk of an unintended bid being accepted but everything must sell whether the bid is charitable or a bargain. "Other lots include handbags, gin, art, flowers and a Harrods Christmas teddy bear."

Cash raised will enable the chamber to host the town's Christmas lights switch-on event, a big party outside St George’s Church from 6pm for 7.30pm on Friday, November 22.

This year members aim to extend the illuminations by hanging eco friendly solar lights on lamp posts at Walmer, the North End and South Street.

An appeal has also been put out for unsung community heroes to switch on the lights.
