Heritage open weekend starts in Dover, Deal and Sandwich

This weekend there will be a chance to see some of the district's most interesting and historic buildings.

The Heritage Open Days take place today (Saturday) and Sunday, and will include a swathe of venues opening their doors for free across Dover, Deal and Sandwich.

In Deal and Walmer, the places opening their doors are:

  • Astor Community Theatre, Saturday, 10am to 3pm
  • Blessed Mary of Walmer, Saturday, 10am to 6pm
  • Deal Angling Club, Saturday, 10am to 1pm
  • Maritime and Local History Museum, Saturday, 11am to 4.30pm, Sunday noon to 4pm
  • Masonic Hall, Saturday, 11am to 4pm
  • Medieval Manor House, Saturday, 10.30am to 3.30pm
  • Sandown Castle, Saturday, 10am to 1pm
  • St Andrew’s Church, Saturday, 10am to 4pm
  • St George’s Church, Saturday, 10am to 1pm
  • St Leonard’s Church, Saturday, 10am to 6pm, Sunday, 2pm to 5pm
  • St Mary’s Church, Saturday, 10am to 6pm
  • St Saviour’s Church, Saturday, 10am to 6pm

  • White Mill Rural Heritage Centre, Saturday to Sunday 10am to 5pm, last entry 4pm
  • St Bartholomew’s Hospital Chapel Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday 1pm to 4pm

The North Entrance Road Tunnel, at the Western Heights in Dover, will also be opening for the first time in 50 years.

Other sites taking part, will include:

  • Grand Shaft Staircase, 10am to 4pm
  • Dover College by guided tour 11am to 2pm
  • The Unitarian Church, Adrian Street, 10am to 4pm
  • On Saturday people can visit Maison Dieu House, Biggin Street, from 10am to 4pm
  • St Edmund’s Chapel in Priory Road, from 10am to 4pm
  • St Mary St Mary the Virgin Church from 10am to 4pm and its bell tower, 1.30pm to 4pm.
  • There are guided tours of Dover Town Hall on Sunday from 10am to 4pm
