Three children’s play areas have reopened after renovation work totalling £180,000.
This follows a major project by Dover District Council (DDC) at Travers Road in Deal, Marke Wood play area in Walmer and The Bulwarks in Sandwich.
The Travers Road facility was opened by council chairman Cllr Gordon Cowan (Lab).
New equipment there includes a new jungle-themed multiplay unit, a basket swing and a roundabout following investment of about £34,000 thanks to a developer contribution.
Marke Wood now has a new junior and toddler multiplay units, a track rider tower and sensory equipment.
All this came from investment of about £88,000 from DDC, Walmer Town Council and developer contributions. That was formally opened by DDC leader Kevin Mills (Lab).
The Bulwarks now has a new junior multiplay unit, basket swing and an inclusive spring seesaw. That followed a total investment of more than £58,000 thanks to money from DDC, Sandwich Town Council and Southern Water.
Cllr David Cronk (Lab), deputy chairman of DDC and Emmet Csuka, mayor of Sandwich, were at that opening.
All three projects follow consultation with the community last May to find out what improvements people wanted.
This also follows news that Kearsney Abbey play area near Dover will be undergoing a major redevelopment during 2026. This is part of £675,000 revamp.
Cllr Charlotte Zosseder (Ind), cabinet member for community and corporate property, said: “We are very pleased to see the new-look facilities open.
“We are delighted to continue to develop and improve play areas across the district, enhancing parks for communities and helping encourage parents and children to enjoy exercise and fresh air in safe outside spaces.
“We would like to say a big thank you to all our partners in the community for their support in this latest round of improvements.”
