Coronavirus Kent: Bandstand concerts suspended and decision pending over July's Royal Marines on the Green show at Walmer Green

A decision is expected whether a memorial concert by the Royal Marines Band Service will take place this summer.

The annual Marines on the Green concert pays tribute to the 11 musicians killed by the IRA's bomb at the Royal Marines School of Music at Deal in 1989.

It has taken place every July since 2000 at the specially built Deal Memorial Bandstand on Walmer Green - but for the first year ever, the 2020 concert is under review.

Derek Lindars, chairman of Deal Memorial Bandstand Trust which organises the event, said: "At this stage, we are planning for the July 5 concert but will keep that under review."

If the government orders an extension of social distancing after the present three week lock down, the committee may have to act, he added.

In the meantime they have cancelled the Sunday afternoon concerts for the month of May.
