District councillors, together with some of their offices, have been on a tour of the district, visiting sites that are being regenerated.

Among the places they visited were Elysium Park Close, off Old Park Hill, Dover, the Port Zone, MultiPanelUK at Eythorne

Hammill Brickworks site at Woodnesborough, the Discovery Park at Sandwich, Fowlmead Country Park and the business park at Betteshanger, the housing development site at Sholden Fields and Minters Yard in Deal.

Cllr Roger Walkden said the Elysium Park development was good to see and at £190,000 for a two-bedroom property and £250,000 for three bedrooms, he described it as “pretty good value”.

“I could see that people who currently live and work in London could relocate here and enjoy a good life by the sea, perhaps some with no mortgage,” he said. “After all, it has been said that we need people with money and disposable income.

“We were told about the expansion of a number of businesses and development of others at the Port Zone.”

He said the development at the former Manley House site at Whitfield looked “very good” with some good houses also being built on the site of the former Royal Oak pub.

“MultiPanel UK at Eythorne have a very good product and is a very exciting venture with an investment figure of £12 million. Sales around the UK Europe, Australia, America and Canada – and they chose Dover district.”

Cllr Walkden said one of the businesses at the Discovery Park was doing "very clever" research and evaluation on Omega 3 extraction from Algae while a fertility company in Sydney that wanted to find a site in Europe had also settled on Sandwich. “That’s great for the district.”

Describing Monday’s trip as “good and worthwhile” he said: “Good news for Dover and there are many more being worked on.”
