These 91 dwellings, from Barrett Homes, would in the northern part of the former mining village.

They are earmarked for, a 2.41 hectare site east of the B2046 Adisham Road. There would be 36 visitor parking spaces.

The permission is for houses and flats ranging from one to four bedrooms, and 18 of them affordable.

A total six of the 18 would be one-bedroomed and 11 would be two-bedroomed.

Cllr Marjorie Ovendens said: "I approve of the affordable ones being one and two-bedroomed ones because that is what we are lacking in the district."

In all 15 would be flats and three houses

But Cllr Pamela Hawkins said: "We are depriving people of affordable houses because most of these are flats."

The Aylesham Village Expansion will also include new and enhanced sports and leisure grounds and new shops.

Planning officers recommended approval of this application.
