It has now been confirmed the Goodwin Academy pupil was taken to Kings College Hospital.

He remains in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a black Ford Transit Tipper, is being treated as a witness rather than a suspect.

The ambulance service confirmed it was called to the scene at about 6.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “Crews assessed and treated the cyclist at the scene before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity, Kent Surrey Sussex.

“The patient was then taken by road to Kings College Hospital for further medical treatment.”

Officers from Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now carrying out enquiries and urge anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.
