Coronavirus Kent: Schools donate PPE to help keep Martha Trust carers safe

Two schools and various individuals have donated equipment to help keep carers safe at a home for adults with profound disabilities.

Martha Trust - the Mercury's Charity of the Year 2020 - has received 30 full face visors from Sir Roger Manwood's School in Sandwich and a further 20 from Dover Grammar School for Girls pupil Esther House who has been making them at home.

Goodwin Academy in Deal has donated a batch of reusable plastic aprons, while Claire Percy and Claire Olcott - a duo who have named themselves The Maskeraids - have supplied a quantity of material masks.

Volunteer Arron Chandler has also pledged 50 clear visor masks.

Fundraising and events officer Kerry Banks BEM said: “We're so thankful to everyone that has rallied around to help us so far, particularly those who have donated essential PPE items.

"With many of our Martha events postponed, third party events cancelled and talks cancelled, the fundraising team are really relying on the generosity of the public to help us at this time."

The Hacklinge based charity is continuing to appeal to secondary schools or businesses who might have PPE equipment they can lend or donate.

Items still required include masks, goggles, visors, disposable aprons, disposable gloves and sanitiser.

To say a special thank you to its staff, the charity is also appealing for donations for its staff raffle.

Mrs Banks said: "We are incredibly proud of our amazing staff that have worked around the clock to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all our residents as always, in these challenging times.

"To celebrate the amazing work they do we hold a staff raffle every June to coincide with Carer's week.

"If you could offer a prize we’d love to hear from you!”
