A shop has been stripped of its alcohol licence after selling a bottle of vodka to a 15-year-old who later required an ambulance.
The Upper Deal Convenience Store in London Road has been banned from selling booze after a Dover District Council (DDC) meeting last week.
Police began investigating after being informed of a medical incident involving a child in the town on January 31 this year.
It was established that a 15-year-old boy had purchased a bottle of vodka earlier, and the store's CCTV showed that he had provided no proof of his age during the transaction.
Police also received reports that school children had been sold tobacco products in recent months.
Following the investigation, licensing officers from the force applied for a review of the store's license, which was revoked after a DDC hearing on Monday, April 7.
PC Danielle Rolfe said: “Businesses have a responsibility to their local community and to young people to take rules around underage sales seriously.
“Shops that allow alcohol to be purchased by children put those children's health in jeopardy and can contribute to issues of antisocial behaviour in their areas.
“For this reason, we will continue to investigate reports of breaches of licensing rules and bring reviews like this one when stores are not taking their responsibilities seriously.”
