Musician Jake St Ange to play at first Dover Pride and the troubadour in London

When 15 year old Deal school boy Jake St Ange went along to play at a regular open mic night, little did he realise that a London musician was in the audience watching him perform.

For Paul Baker, lead singer with London band Daniel Takes A Train, was listening closely as the teenager played three of his self penned numbers.

Mr Baker was so impressed he filmed Jake's performance and shared the footage with a contact of his - music promoter Ian Williamson, “director of happenings” at the world famous Troubadour Club in London.

Jake, of Sir Roger Manwood's School, was promptly booked to play there and he is among the acts to perform at Dover's first Pride festival tomorrow (Saturday).

Mum Allison Cardno said: "Jake writes from the heart and his songs tell a story about life as a teenager."

The Troubadour is renowned as a venue for fresh talent. It is widely reported that it was the first London venue Bob Dylan ever played. Other famous artists to have made music there are Jimmy Hendrix, Elvis Costello and more recently Adele and Ed Sheeran.

Jake, son of Walmer Parish councillor Pete St Ange of the Sea Cafe on Walmer Green, has already made a name for himself at at Deal venues.

He's known at The Lighthouse, Le Pinardier and The Alma's open mic night, where he was discovered by Mr Baker when he was having a drink there during a visit to see his mum, of Exchange Street.

Jake said: “Showcasing my songs at the Troubadour Club is a great opportunity.”

The gig is on September 13 at 263-267 Old Brompton Rd, Earl's Court.

Jake's acoustic contemporary storytelling is influenced by the likes of John Mayer. He only performs his own compositions and his play list for the night - and at tomorrow's Pride - comprises his own material including titles Explode and Hundred Million Years.

Jake can be seen performing at Pride at 4.20pm at the main stage, Dover Town Hall.
