Mercury photo competition returns with winning image to go on the front page of Mercury Calendar 2021

This week brings a return to the popular Mercury Photo Competition with the winning entry to go on the front page of the popular Mercury calendar.

The competition is to encourage people to take pictures to promote the area, and also to find photos to put in the Mercury calendar, which will be free inside an edition of the Mercury in December.

Photographs must be landscape, and of scenes in the Deal , Dover and Sandwich area or the surrounding villages.

They can be sent in to our office in Queen Street, Deal or emailed.

Entries will be judged by Mercury news editor Beth Robson, former KM photographer Tony Flashman and advertising rep Claire Hall.

The winning photo will go on the front page of the next Mercury calendar, and next 11 best images from your entries will be used for the inside pages.

All shortlisted pictures for the coveted front page will be published in the Mercury.

Beth said: “Many have asked in recent years when our photographic competition and calendar will return and this year the team is delighted to bring it back.

"We always had a huge response to the competition and I am sure this year will be no different.

“There are so many wonderful aspects of Deal which make fine photographs and Tony, Claire and I look forward to picking the best.

"More than anything, we are excited to be producing our popular calendar which we know our readers have missed."

This year for the first time there will be a digital edition of the calendar meaning you can download the calendar page for each corresponding month to your desktop.

Photo entries are limited to no more than three per person.

They can be emailed to mercurynews@thekmgroup.co.uk , and entrants must include their name, address and phone number and written permission for us to reproduce the pictures in the Calendar, in the Mercury and online.

The closing date is Friday, October 16.
