KAREN STUPPLES’ hopes of a second Weetabix Women’s British Open Championship faded on a wet final afternoon at Royal Lytham and St Annes on Sunday.

The former champion set out on her final round, three shots off the lead and tied for second place, hopeful of a second title after her success at Sunningdale two years ago.

However, the Deal girl’s day ended in disappointment after a six-over par 78, but she had the consolation of being the leading British player in the championship for the fourth year running, finishing equal 10th, with a four-round total of 290, two over par, one ahead of Laura Davies.
