One of the best kept secrets in Kent is that some of Europe's finest restaurants are located just 21 miles away across the English Channel in Calais.

Which makes it all the more surprising that more residents of the county don’t treat themselves to a trip across the water to try for themselves some superlative French cuisine.

Today the Calais region is a major producer of cheese, the most famous of which being the exquisite maroille. And the nearby coastline is home to France's largest fishing port, Boulogne.

Given this rich heritage, it is perhaps unsurprising that a cluster of the highest class restaurants has grown up in Calais itself, some of which are serviced by Michelin-starred chefs.
