Both were intercepted today and were each found to have 10 men inside.

The first vessel had been a RHIB (rigid-hulled inflatable boat) and was crossing the Channel towards the UK.

A Home Office spokesman said of the second case: "Border Force was alerted to a small boat sighted off the coast of Kent.

"A Border Force vessel was sent to the scene and 10 men were detained, with assistance from Kent Police."

The men from both boats were taken to Dover to be medically assessed before being interviewed by immigration officials.

The nationalities of these men still has to be established.

The issue of migrants trying to reach Britain on small craft has gone on all year.

There have also been incidents on or off the coast of Deal, Folkestone, Romney Marsh and Thanet.
