A body has been found more than a week after a sea swimmer went missing off the Kent coast.
A huge search and rescue operation was launched when a 20-year-old man disappeared in the water at the Port of Dover on May 3.
With the coastguard helicopter, police and lifeboats unable to locate him over the Bank Holiday weekend, the search was subsequently stood down.
Confirming today a body has now been recovered, a police spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.08pm on May 12 to a report of a body in the sea near Marine Parade, Dover.
“Officers, fire crews and the RNLI attended the scene where the body of a man was recovered.
“The deceased has not been formally identified but the family of a 20-year-old man who was reported missing on Saturday 3 May have been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be completed for the coroner.”
