E.U.Thinking : Deal + Dover calls for second Brexit referendum in run-up to Theresa May deal vote in Parliament

Campaigners put up stalls in three towns to call for a second Brexit referendum.

They did this in the run-up to tomorrow's vote in Parliament on Prime Minister Theresa May's leaving deal.

E.U.Thinking : Deal + Dover hosted two street stalls in Dover and Deal last Saturday, which saw People’s Vote day of action involving around 500 local groups nationwide.

They also hosted a stall in Sandwich during its market day last Thursday.

Sarah Gleave of EUTD+D was at the Dover stall in Biggin Street and said the group spoke to both leave and remain supporters.

She explained; "There was considerable agreement across the divide that May's government is in a mess.

"We all need to respect all of our fellow Dover electorate and listen to one another without anger or abuse.

"We say a short, clean, final referendum, has a better chance of being respected by the losing side, whichever it is, and bringing us together than any other option.”

Fellow EUTD+D member Chris Precious said, “Members of our group have looked carefully at Brexit impact assessments for East Kent and spoken to clearance, border force and port people.

"It is clear that a cliff-edge no-deal exit , or Mrs May’s botched deal, will leave Dover communities very hard hit and that the worst off will be hardest hit.

"Small and medium businesses in Kent will be affected as well.

Last-minute attempts at traffic preparations are far from impressive.”

EUTD+D is a cross-party group campaigning for the least worst outcome from Brexit for the Dover district.

Britain's European Union leaving date is March 29.

It is feared that Mrs May will be defeated in tomorrow's vote with Labour and other opposition parties going against her plus more than 100 Conservatives and Unionists.

The Prime Minister has had a torrid time with this issue with two other Commons defeats earlier this month and a string of government members resigning since last month.

Dartford MP Gareth Johnson walked out as a government whip today.
