Collection dates by Veolia for household waste and recyclable materials may change says Dover District Council

Householders are being told that, from April 12, their waste and recycling collection day may change.

Letters will be sent to them to say if they are affected.

Dover District Council says that this is part of a key review of the service to help reduce distances travelled and protect the environment.

It is currently writing to households in its area to tell everyone of the changes and its contractors will distribute new calendars to homes, letting people know if their days/weeks have changed.

Households are reminded to put their containers out by 7am on the day of collection each week.

There will be no changes to the containers used, or the materials that can be recycled. Garden waste collections also remain unchanged.

In October it was announced that Veolia had retained the recycling and waste services contract for Dover district.

It has now reviewed its rounds and made changes to improve efficiency and is introducing a new green fleet of vehicles.

This also follows news that Dover District Council has approved its Climate Change Strategy and has set out its aim to be become a net zero carbon emitter by 2030.

Council leader Trevor Bartlett said: “We continue to work hard to meet our climate change agenda and we’ve been working with our contractors to look at ways to reduce our carbon footprint.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we bring in these important changes.”

David Fitzgerald, general manager of Veolia UK said: “These waste changes are a big step forward in making smarter and greener collections.

" We ask that residents take the time to familiarise themselves with the new timetable ahead of the launch in April and we thank them for their patience as we make the transition.”
