Truckers jailed after Dover border officials find cocaine behind Sainsbury's bag in vehicle

Border officials uncovered a stash of class A drugs worth £3.2m in a truck - hidden under a bag with the slogan: "I'm gorgeous!"

The hessian Sainsbury's bag promised: "I'm a RENEWABAG. I’m made from natural fibres so I’m great for the environment – and gorgeous with it!"

But when staff at Dover’s Eastern Docks moved it, they found it was concealing a secret compartment containing 27 kilos of cocaine.

Latvian truckers Stanislavs Urbonavics, 43, and pal Kristaps Zarins, 33, denied smuggling drugs, but were convicted by a jury at Canterbury Crown Court.

The court heard the pair were stopped by sharp-eyed officials at Dover in May 2016, who then X-rayed the giant truck and discovered the secret stash.

Urbonavics, who was the driver, and Zarins were jailed for 13 years and 11 years respectively.
