She was from the town of Wivenhoe in north eastern Essex.

A spokesman from Essex Police said today: "Police received a call at 11.40am yesterday concerning a woman’s welfare.

"We then launched a missing person’s investigation and made attempts to locate the 49-year-old from Wivenhoe.

"Sadly, the search was suspended after officers from Kent discovered a body in Dover at around 1pm that day.

"The woman’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

"Our thoughts are with the family and friends concerned at this time."

Kent Police were called out at 1pm yesterday and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
