Delays expected on A2 towards Dover after lorry drops its trailer full of bananas

There are long delays on the A2 towards Dover after a lorry dropped its trailer full of bananas.

The trailer, which contains 21 tonnes of bananas, came lose from the cab and is causing an obstruction in the coastbound lane.

Traffic is queued between the A256 and A258.

Kent Police's roads unit tweeted that recovery is en route to the scene.

Two police cars were spotted at the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Police are currently on the A2 Dover following a call at 11.56am reporting that a lorry had shed its load.

"This was said to have occurred on the Duke of Yorks roundabout heading towards the Whitfield roundabout.

"Officers are currently at the scene and closing the road."
