Road closure on A20 between Dover and Hawkinge after oil spill

The A20 has been closed westbound between Dover and Hawkinge.

Kent Police have now confirmed that the cause is a broken down vehicle with an oil spillage.

A spokesman said this morning: "We were called at 3.53am to a report of a broken down vehicle on the A20 near Dover.

"Road closures are currently in place due to an oil spillage at Courtwood Bridge so traffic is heavier in the area. "

Highways England has said the shutdown is between the A256 York Street and the A260 near Hawkinge.

The agency says that drivers should follow the hollow squared symbols via the B2011 westbound.

They should then continue to the junction with the A260 Canterbury Road, and the junction of Alkham Valley Road before joining the A20 at the roundabout.
