Dover TAP implemented on A20 at Aycliffe, says Kent County Council

Dover TAP is now in place at Aycliffe.

The restriction, called the Traffic Access Protocol, has been put on the section of the coastbound stretch A20 because of a large volume of lorries.

Kent County Council highway officials announced this at 1.25pm today.

A council spokesman said the measure was implemented "to prevent Portbound traffic from disrupting the local road network and the A20 through Dover town."

Dover TAP is a temporary traffic management system which queues port-bound lorries on the nearside to prevent congestion in the town.

Traffic lights hold back lorries until space at the Port of Dover becomes available.

It also means a 40mph speed restriction for all vehicles approaching the port and town.
