Coronavirus Kent: Uplifting song Look to the Sky penned by ex Aylesham teacher Veronica Tutthill from Dover

An uplifting song to help joy manifest from the mire of Covid-19 has been penned by an ex-teacher.

Veronica Tutthill said the words and melody of Look to the Sky came to her when she was walking back from the shops in Dover, and from there the verses just flowed.

Ms Tutthill said: "I have enjoyed writing songs for years and years but I have never written my own melody - I have just changed the words to existing songs.

"The melody popped into my head randomly walking back from the supermarket.

"The words came to me and I didn't trust my memory so I had to write them down on a cardboard box, then another two lines popped into my head."

The former teacher at St Joseph's School in Aylesham wrote two verses and then another verse came along.

She said this happened in the early days of coronavirus lockdown when the streets were "literally like a ghost town," inspiring the lyrics.

"It was just a moment and I grabbed it.

"I'm fortunate to know a very talented lady, Rachel Gerrard who is a vocal coach and singer in the town. She produced it and sang it for me."

Ms Gerrard, who has her own website and youtube channel, helped Ms Tutthill upload it to youtube and the pair have been sharing the song ever since.

Ms Tutthill has always had a flair for the arts.

She studied for a degree in primary education and drama and would write her own productions such as Never Forget for the Centenary of the First World War and On yer 'ed son, a football based show. She also likes writing poetry.

But of her first song she said: "I'm doing it because I enjoy it, I have time on my hands and I'm hoping it touches people."

n Veronica is raising cash for the South Kent Branch of Mind and is hoping to reach a modest target of £100 from people who have enjoyed hearing the song.
